History of the Bible InstituteMatt Postiff, Ph.D., Th.M. The institute got its start from our former pastor, Dr. Raymond H. Saxe, in what he called the Timothy Training program. It was named for Timothy, the student of the apostle Paul; I believe it was also named in honor of Dr. & Mrs. Saxe eldest son, who died in infancy. In 1997 and 1998 I was searching for additional Bible instruction at a seminary level in the area where I lived in Michigan. The Lord made available the opportunity to attend the Timothy Training sessions at Fellowship Bible, and it was just what I needed at that time. It fit my schedule, and since it was free, it fit my budget too! I studied in the program for about four years and then began to teach some courses as well. After Pastor Saxe’s retirement in 2006, we took a hiatus from this extra Bible study; as the newly called pastor, I had some ministries now that needed my careful attention. In 2009-10, I was burdened to restart the program for our church folks and open it to believers outside of our local church. I renamed the program, not to jettison the previous significance of the name, but to make its scope more clear. The institute is not just for church leaders or for men (the former Timothy Training was not either), but it is for all believers, whether they aspire to be Timothies or not. The following is a brief history of courses taught, with the new course number anachronistically included:
