Vacation Bible School InformationWhat is Vacation Bible School? Vacation Bible School is a week-long series of meetings when children can learn about Jesus through a re-telling of the history presented in the Bible. Our goal, as you might expect, is to show the children the good news of how to become a Christian. This good news is called the "gospel." This year's Bible school will re-tell stories from the accounts of Jesus' life which are called the "gospels" (the Bible books Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John). What does a typical night look like? A lot happens in the two hours of the VBS each night. After enrollment/registration, the first group session is held. There are pledges to the United States and Christian flags, songs, team competitions, a penny offering that is used to support the church's missionary program, prayer, and then the first Bible lesson.
Then there is a half-hour break for snack and games, followed by the second group session with more songs, Bible drill, and then the second Bible lesson. The evening closes with presentation of prizes and reminders for the upcoming nights of VBS and for children to memorize their Bible verses to get even more prizes. How can parents be involved? The final night's closing program is special because all the parents are invited to join in and see what happens and what the children have learned during the week. The first four nights of the week, parents can also stay and watch, if they want, or they may want to use the time to do some shopping or get some R&R or have a nice dinner out! Who teaches the Bible lessons? Our VBS teacher this year is RBM Missionary Dave Kurowicki. Dave does Bible schools like this all summer and has done it for years. He is very good working with the children. Our church supplies volunteers to help with snacks, games, and logistics. |
